Sydney JoomlaDay 2011 Website Design
The site was built with the latest version of Joomla - version 1.7.2 and implmented K2. K2 was still in RC but proved to be stable. one of the sponsors - Weever Apps also provide the ability to provide an effective modile app as well and was useful to provide on the day things like google maps and programs.
Some issue arose around this being a dark theme but the power of Joomla made short worl of it.

SCEGGS Darlinghurst
SCEGGS Darlinghurst is a K-12 school near the heart of Sydney with a population of 880 girls. SCEGGS previous web site was well designed but was written in a proprietary CSM that the School found difficult to maintain and change. The School liked the look of their site but needed it updated to a CSM they could control and one that allowed searching of the content. It was decided to use the CMS Joomla and to write all content in a Content Construction Kit (CCK) and the component K2 was selected for that.
K2 allows the School to easily edit and add new articles that automatically appear in the correct place. K2 allows adding of images with consistent rendering and attaching galleries and documents is a simple front end upload.
Work began in November 2010 with the transfer of data from the old site and the arrangement into 35 Categories and Subcategories of K2. In all, over 240 articles have been created with only a few of them also being tagged to appear in multiple places.
K2 has been modified to suit the needs of the School including the ability of the users to enlarge fonts on all parts of the articles and some functionality remove - like enlargement of any added photos.
All site design, template creation and article creation was carried out by YWS.
The site was launched on 24th June 2011.
Supply Chain Professionals
Designed to have a more modern look this site uses a modified template from Joomlashack. The logo is a bespoke design and two of its colours were worked into the template layout. The job application component nearly fulfilled the clients brief but the site could not be made to be SEF because the component opened windows while in search mode causing some links to fail.

Face 2 Face UMAT
The Undergraduate Medical Admissions Test (UMAT) is an aptitude test designed to assist in the selection process for undergraduate health professional courses. F2F Umat initially tutored students only by request, word spread of their success through word of mouth and by 2005 they had too many students to teach as individuals. Thus in 2006 Face2Face UMAT Preparation Centre was born. From the very beginning, F2F made a commitment to getting students in, resulting in a success rate twice as high as their competitors. This fuelled the extraordinary rate of growth and today we have offices in four different cities. By 2010 Face 2 Face UMAT realised the need to offer courses online and they choose Plato Elearning and JoomlaLMS to attain their goals.
ALB CPD Centre
The Australasian Legal Business Continuing Professional Development Centre (ALB CPD Centre) offers interactive online legal elearning courses in a range of topic areas. ALB CPD require a way to deliver remotely training to lawyers and they chose JoomlaMS. The course feature leading industry experts, each course has been designed to keep them up to date with the latest legal developments and key professional skills.
Primed Website
Primed Consultancy is a young company specialising in Change Consultancy. The company needed a fresh web redesign that would allow more 'Web 2' functionalitly.
YWS has used the Joomla component K2 to allow blog style commenting on Primed articles, installed an interactive Forum and featured some of their videos.
Primed has a large library of commisioned videos which needed to be housed and streamed to site visitors and clients. The videos for clients need to be in different templates (look and feel), this has been acommplished with a subsite of Primed.
Primed also needed email and on-line document storage and this was accomplished creating a company Google Docs site.
Video Streaming or Vodcasting
There are a number of ways to stream video to your audience. Got a film under 15 minutes and want it to be public then it is very hard to go past Youtube as the site is popular and hosting is free. What if your video is longer than 15 minutes and it's all your own work well then you can choose between Vimeo or Viddler which are also free but the material must not be for commercial gain. There have been stories of companies on Vimeo having their videos removed because they were commercial. Vimeo has a paid service for less and $100 a year and while this gives more functionality it still mustn't be commercial videos.
JoomlaLMS 1.0.7 upcoming release
YWS is happy to announce that the elearning component JoomlaLMS 1.0.7 is on the way! The release is scheduled for the end of July 2010. The upcoming version is going to have many significant and long-awaited improvements and functions that you suggested implementing. Just take a look at the brief roadmap that lists only the major innovations:
Joomla and Podcasting
Podcasting is a method of publishing audio and video content via the Internet allowing users to subscribe to a feed and to receive new content automatically. As new material is place on the feeder site your podcasting software will detect it and you can elect to automatically download it or selectively choose. The question is how to do this in Joomla.
